5 Instagram Trends To Look Out For In 2018.
Just like almost anything you can think of with time comes elevation. I’m pretty sure we all can agree that Instagram is always changing it up on us with fresh & innovative ideas to keep millions of account holders on our toes. From back in August of 2016 when Instagram introduced us to the “Insta-story” feature, to now introducing us to one of their newest features of allowing you archive & highlight your favorite expired stories, it’s safe to say that Instagram is setting brands up for the smoothest way to market. Individuals and businesses alike are swarming to Instagram to advertise their brands more and more frequently.
Since marketing success stems from being at the front of new advertising styles, it’s beneficial for people like us to predict new marketing trends so why not we just give you 5 Instagram trends that you should watch out for in 2018.
1. Instagram Stories Changing The Game.
Pay attention for Instagram stories will dominate in 2018! Instagram Story feature is a big deal and guess what?! They’re not going away. As we state before, Instagram stories were introduced to us back in August of 2016. Now, Snapchat was the first to let users share short videos that delete after 24 hours, but hell, it worked! It worked so well Facebook decided to take a whack at it both on Instagram and in the app that bears its name. With its huge audience, it should come as no surprise that within the first year of the Instagram story debut, it has surpassed Snapchat’s view count with 20 million views a day. That's HUGE!
Instagram Stories in particular will be relevant from a marketing perspective because, compared to other video platforms, Instagram metrics are uniquely trackable. Businesses and personal brands who want to thrive in the marketing game come 2018 should start familiarizing themselves with the Instagram Story feature. By the end of 2018 nearly half of all Instagram users will be using Stories so don't fall behind and get on the trend NOW.
2. That IG Story Swipe Up & Shop Feature.
So being that we NOW know that Instagram's story feature will be the wave of 2018, there are tons of beneficial ways within your story to help promote and market your brand strategically. There is so much more to it then making a simple video and posting it. Like with the Poll Feature for example, which by the way is one of our favorite features because we get to gain some great analytics.
The stories are fun to use and to view, allowing you to add filters, tags, and text. A huge deal with Instagram Stories is this: accounts with over 10,000 followers can now add a link within the feature and this is considering the fact that the only other place you can put a link on Instagram is just the one buried on your profile page, this is a huge deal, as it multiplies buying or inquiry opportunities by orders of magnitude.
As if Stories wasn’t already versatile enough, Instagram now includes a Shop Now feature that allows users to include links to their products or store pages. The feature makes e-commerce that much easier, while also simplifying the process. Businesses can close the gap between attracting followers and getting them to buy products by conducting as much of the process within Instagram.
3. Streaming Live on Instagram.
The significance of live streaming is not from it gaining prevalence, but rather the technology we have to do it is improving. We literally get better phones with better hardware every year *coughs* Thanks APPLE! But this means better and more accessible video recording and processing.
While Facebook Live and other live streaming sources that we're used to have been around for quite some time now, the way that people and brands are going to use them will definitely change in 2018. Instagram Live is one to watch out for. As with Stories, Instagram Live creates a stronger, more personal connection between user and audience – even more so than Stories, in fact. Live is all about being real, being connected, and responding to 'of the moment’ events or topics. Instagram Live is perfect for immediate marketing in action.
All of the new features added to Live this year, from being able to go Live with a friend to being able to request to join someone else’s Live broadcast, reinforce the idea that community, engagement and collaboration are Instagram’s key priorities for the upcoming year.
4. Beating The System - The Sandwich Algorithm.
As you may have noticed, Instagram’s old display of posts in chronological order has been replaced with a random pattern. Which we are soooo glad that has changed. Although there is an algorithm that we cant really explain, several high-profile users have formulates certain ways to beat the system. One of these methods are called “sandwiching.”
Just like your average sandwich you have two solid outsides that helps with making that middle ingredient taste sooooo much better. This is not different.
Sandwiching helps with increasing a post’s popularity by placing two promotional posts on either side of a non-promo post. According to what is known about the algorithm, being surrounded by posts with high levels of user engagement will elevate the visibility of that post.
5. Hashtag, Hashtag, Hashtag!
So we know you're asking us why should you Hashtag?! Whats so important about Hashtagging?
Well, Hashtags have more engagement than those using it then those without them. This is precisely the reason why hashtags are among the best tools for users, influencers, and brands to increase their visibility on Instagram.
When using at least one hashtag on Instagram you open a possibility for new users to discover your content. Obviously, using more than one hashtag gives you even more reach and exposure. Influencers and brands use hashtags to win more likes, comments, and new followers.
Instagram’s algorithm considers the hashtags on your posts to show them up first on the Instagram hashtag search, Instagram’s Explore tab or on your follower’s main Instagram feed.
As of December 2017 Instagram wowed us with their newest feature of allowing you to now follow hashtags on Instagram meaning that posts or Stories tagged with that particular hashtag appear in your feed, just like when you follow an account. There are a lot that goes into Hashtagging and we would love to create another blog post for that. Just know Hashtags are very important and they create engagement.
2018 social media trends predict that time on social media platforms will increase. This means you will need to improve your online presence in the year to come.
